General Information |
| |
Voice over IP
Voice over IP (VOIP) allows you to get some of all of your phone service
via the Internet. This can save substantial money, and increase
your capacity.
Analog Phone
An analog phone, otherwise known as a POTS phone, is a phone
that can be plugged directly into a normal phone jack, much like you
would have at home.
IP Phone
An IP phone connects to your phone system over the Internet, rather than
requiring a cable directly from your phone to the phone system.
You do not need a TalkSwitch with VOIP capacity to use an IP
phone. |

About TalkSwitch
TalkSwitch is a hybrid PBX. Don't let
that description confuse you however, because we will
explain. The term PBX stands for Private Branch
Exchange. A PBX is very much like having a
private phone company in your office. It has many
features and can provide many services that are similar to
what you would pay the phone company for. The
difference is that once you buy a PBX, you don't have to pay
monthly for the features.
The PBX features included in a
TalkSwitch phone system include:
- Ability to dial outside numbers or inside
extensions.
- Sharing of phone lines among extensions without
having to pay for a phone line for each extension.
- Voicemail
- Automated attendants
- Call forwarding, transfer, conferencing, and call
waiting
- Many more
The term hybrid means that it can handle
both traditional (otherwise known as analog or POTS lines
and phones), as well as Internet (or VOIP lines and phones).

phones.
TalkSwitch is available in various models, depending on
the capacity required. That being said, all TalkSwitch
models have all features, so you never have to pay extra for
additional features.
Usually, the mot expensive part of any PBX purchase is
the phones. TalkSwitch offers great flexibility in
choosing which phones to use, which can save you significant
money. Your choices include:
- TalkSwitch analog phones
- Any analog phone
- TalkSwitch VOIP phones
- Any standard SIP phone
- Softphone software running on your PC
A TalkSwitch PBS is modular, meaning that you can add
capacity as you need it. You can increase in many
cases using an add-on card that fits in your system.
When your needs grow beyond a single TalkSwitch box, you add
a second one. When a second box is added to your
network, the first TalkSwitch box automatically finds it,
and configures both to act as a single system. Your
TalkSwitch system can grow to 64 extensions and 32 phone
lines.
A TalkSwitch PBX is primarily based on software (you can
think of it as a small computer). Because of this, new
functionality can be added for free via software updates.
Finally, a TalkSwitch PBX is configured using a program
running on your Windows-based PC. This makes is easy
to configure, and easy to save a backup of your
configuration. |
